In accordance to the City of Cape Towns regulations, all solar powered systems (Off-Grid & Grid-Tied) need to be registered.
You are required to register your solar system before you intend to install a small scale embedded generation (SSEG) system such as a rooftop solar PV and back-up system which could take up to 5-6 months to be completed and then only can you install your solar system. Most clients do not want to wait this long before being able to install, therefor Solar Enervation will put you in contact with a Engineering firm after the installation is complete to register. A professional electrical engineer (ECSA) needs to sign off on the diagram of your system as well as the DB Box when applying for authorization. The engineering company that we use will ask a fee for this registration to be complete. Those funds go directly to the firm and not Solar Enervation. This process will take 30-40 days to complete via the Engineering firm. The documents that are needed to complete this registration is: - The client’s ID Document. - The proxy. - The clients address. The client is also more than welcome to use a firm of their own choosing. If installation of a SSEG system is completed without authorization from the CoCT, you will be required to disconnect your system from your main electricity supply and apply for authorization to install, failing that, electricity will be cut to your property along with a fine.
